Malum Resurget

OOC
Type: Rapid Fire
Genre: Modern Fantasy Horror
Original: Yes
Notes: Open, Demon Hunting RP
Location: UK, North Yorkshire, Anglton

Michael Carpenter did not look like a Demon hunter as he rattled into Anglton in his old rover. The sun was setting and His lights barely lit the road, the buildings casting shadowy shapes against the cloudy sky. The car coughed and spluttered as he pulled into the centre of town, making a beeline for the Local school.

He parked off the road, just beyond the school gate, and stepped out. His long canvas Jacket covered old Jeans and a faded jumper, a wool hat Pressing down his long lank hair and a thin pair of spectacles on his face. He took a long black sports bag out of the boot and headed inside, drawing a few glances from the School windows as he headed in the front entrance.

Ignoring the Front desk he pulled a small grubby notepad out, looking at some directions given to him by the local priest before heading off down on of the tiled corridors. There were a few late classes still in session, but he paid them no mind, heading down a few lesser used corridors before he found the door he was looking for, down to the Boiler room. Taking a small key the Vicar had given him Mike pulled open the door and descended the stairs.

There , drawn on the tiled floor, was a massive symbol, its unholy presence casting a dark pall over the dank room. It was drawn in blood.

Re: Malum Resurget

"Where are you going, Fen? Come back to class." Sean hissed at his cousin, only inches behind the younger girl.

"To find out where he's going. Doesn't look like anyone I've seen around here."

"The towns not that small, you can't have met everyone, yet. How would you know, could be a repairman for all we know."

Fen gave Sean cynical stare. "Actually I probably met everyone in the first couple of hours, besides, finding out who he is sounds a lot more exciting than extra math."

Sean's face hardened not liking the girls resistance" Alan wouldn't approve."

"So what. Hes not my dad. Come on. Come with me if you're so worried."

Sean stepped back a little too bothered by her words. "No. I'm staying right here til study hour is up."

"Suit yourself." With that she shrugged and slipped out of the door in time to see the man turn at the end of the hall. Flat shoes barely made a sound as she trotted quickly to catch p without being noticed. At his last turn she furrowed her brows confused as to why a man would walk int the school and go straight for the boiler room. Maybe he is a repairman?

Creeping close to the open doorway She peered inside the dimly lit room, bending at the waist to see as much as she could without coming fully inside. The smell caught her first and her body shivered understanding the source before her brain did. Fen gasped when she saw curved lines of what looked like blood, only seeing a small portion from her contorted position.

In that moment she was shoved hard from behind and quick thinking was the only thing that kept her from falling more than halfway down the stairs. As she cried out and a hand darted out for the railing the door slammed shut.

Re: Malum Resurget

Mike Heard the gasp and the slamming door. Whipping round on the balls of his feet he pulled out an oddly ornate pistol and pointed it towards the stairs. "Freeze!" He yelled at the shape outlined behind the Boiler room's dim lights,

Taking a step forward he realised that the gasp had come from a young girl in the Schools uniform, holding on to the stairs rail whilst he pointed his gun. She looked terrified, but He had been a hunter for too long to let his guard down. "Who are you?" He asked, his voice deep and his eyes narrowed/

Re: Malum Resurget

It took a moment for Fenella to find her voice but she stuttered out her name as though she was speaking to her strictest of teachers.

"Fen. F-Fenella Craig, Sir." Her eyes were locked on the gun, if she was closer she be cross eyed looking at it so hard. She wanted to try the door but her gut told her it was most likely locked. The gun aimed at her stopped all but the most basic of movements, adjusting her skirt over her scraped knees and rising slowly to a sitting position.

"You don't look like a repairman." It was a flat, matter of fact statement. More often than not her curiosity overrode her brain.

"Not in the way you're thinking of lass." he said, although a twinge of doubt had gnawed at Mike as she spoke. He didn't feel anything from her, no malice or deception, no glamours or any other trick the dark ones used to hide from sight. Still It paid to be careful.

He let one hand off his gun and from the canvas jacket's pocket he pulled out something small. It was covered by his hand, but whatever the object was it was attached to a small silver chain. Hefting it in his hand whilst still aiming the weapon at the girl, he suddenly threw it underarm at her.

"Catch" He said quickly as the object left his hand.

Fen darted her hand out and caught the chain on instinct, taking the risk of falling the rest of the way down the stairs. "She looked at the chain and held it up close for inspection. A small blue rough cut stone dangled from the end encased in a silver worked cage. She stared at it before pulling her eyes away looking down at him.

"You giving this to me?"

"No, Fenella Craig, but it does prove a point." With an economy of motion Mike drew back his jacket and holstered the Odd gun, its long ornate muzzle fitting under his arm snugly as he replaced it.

He walked over to the stairs and held out his hand "I'll have the charm back, if you don't mind." he said, his manner only slightly warmer then when he had held the gun, his eyes still hard as ice chips.

She backed up the stairs as he approached, fear evident and he closed the gap. The weird gun still lingering in her mind. Her head tilted angling at him full of suspicion her eyes narrowed. "What do you mean? What point?" Shoving the necklace in her pocket she turned and ran for the door finding it locked.

"What the..?" She banged on it. "Open up!"

Re: Malum Resurget

Suddenly Mike looked concerned "If it wasn't you who close the door then who...".

He didn't get a chance to say more. The air suddenly turned cold, ice forming on the pipes and the boiler letting out a hideous wheeze as the metal contracted. A noise, almost beyond hearing, burst from the Rune on the floor, along with a shadowy tendril the color of ink and old blood, topped with a fanged maw and dotted with thousands of misshapen eyes.

"BLOOD!" It screamed in a voice so high that penetrated to the core of Mike's being. It grew in a moment, filling the rune and lashing like a tortured Serpent as it grew. "Bloodbloodbloodbloodbloodbloodbloodblood!"It continued to screech, lashing out towards The hunter and the girl. With a flick Mike drew the gun again the odd designs now glowing like a torch. With little preamble the gun Roared ass he opened fire, wishing he had not given his only protection to the Girl.

Re: Malum Resurget

Before she could begin to panic about the door she felt an icy chill, turning to see the man draw his weird gun again. The floor erupted into something her brain could not understand and she banged on the door with both fists in desperation!

"Alan! Sean! Open the door! This isn't funny!" The fear made her voice high and shaky. Looking behind her she stared, frozen in place by what she saw. The ma fired into the disgusting blood creature that seemed to pour up from the floor. Where the man fire the thing dissolved with a sickening hiss, adding to the foul stench in the air.

Fen slid down to the floor in front of the door, trembling hands sliding down the frame, terrified as the creature was slowly subdued.

Re: Malum Resurget

Mike's Gun continued to roar as it spat fire into the unholy thing writhing from its symbol on the floor. Every impact brought forth a scream and the sound like a hammer hitting tar, with each impact sending unholy flesh tumbling away like rotten tissue paper.

The demonic creature thrashed, the inky tendril trying to reach the Hunter, but unable to brave the light the the gun threw off. Wounded and angry the creature turned to go for the girl, its being elongating to bury its maw in her throat.

But an inch from her there was a loud crack, and bright energy filling the air between the demon and the girl. Smoke erupted from the pocket she had slid the amulet into, and the creature snapped back as if hit by a lorry, its maw sizzling. Seeing his chance Mike pulled from his pocket a small glass vile of clear fluid, and tossed it into the Symbol.

There was a smash as the glass broke, then an eruption of flame, Pure and white, that surged up the demon's body. It cried out, a plaintive wail from the unholy creature, "You have not won Hunter!" it screamed over the roar of flame. suddenly every eye looked towards him, brimming with hate, "We are coming Back!".

With that it was consumed, the fire eating it away to nothing, leaving only greasy ash that faded from view along with the symbol itself. Mike let out the breath he had been holding, ad regarded the girl, still hunched by the door. "You alight Lass?" He asked.

Her hands were over her ears now. She had covered her entire head when the creature lunged at her. "What was that thing!? What are you?! What's going on? I don't understand any of this!" Her words melted into sobbing, great hacking coughs and ragged breathing were the only sounds in the room now.

"If only I was so lucky." Mike said, if only to himself more then the girl. He surveyed the scene, but only a lingering fug and some scorch marks where his shots had gone through the horrors flesh, nothing remained, not even the symbol, its dispelling banishing the mark from existence.

SIghing with frustration he turned, holstering the gun again and walking back up the stairs, he glanced at the girl, still sobbing ad confused. Best not to involve her, better to moved on.

He steeled his resolve and pulled at the door, it's once magicked surface now opening freely, allowing the bright hall lights to shine in. There was no-one around, so Mike headed back towards his car.

Her head shot up as the door opened. She stepped out just after him but didn't move much farther until she could no longer see him.

When she finally made it back to class everyone was packing up t leave. Sean looked surprised to see her. "How'd you?.." He changed his mind and re worded the question. "Where did you go?"

"Don't worry about it." She pushed past him got her stuck and walked out, with him running behind her.

"Fen! Fen, wait up!"

Fen ignored Sean and crossed the road heading to his parents house. Not many other student went this way so she made sure not to stay too far ahead of him.

Re: Malum Resurget

Mike got into his Rover as fast as he could. He hadn't felt it at the time, but somehow the horror had banged to nick his leg, not physically but still as bad as a snake Bite. He could feel its poisons flooding into his system. Pulling off the sports bag he tossed it on the passenger seat, flicking the lights on as the engine rattled to life. Stamping on the clutch he pushed it into gear and the Car jumped off.

The clock was ticking, and with every beat of his heart the poison spread. He sped through the almost empty streets, astonishing passers by as night truly fell.

His eyes were growing heavy, his arms sluggish, and he only avoided crashing into a tractor and several pedestrians through sheer chance. At last, on the outskirts of the town the churches tower came into view, its Norman tower a beacon to Mike's failing heart.

Screeching into the car park the Hunter tumbled out of the door , hanging onto the handle for his life. The effort was clear on his face as he pulled himself up and pushed off towards the large oak doors. They were only meters away, but it felt like miles, and every step threatened to send him over.

Eventually he reached the large Oak doors, and pushed with all his remaining might. They opened just as his strength gave out, and the floor rushed up to meet him.

Re: Malum Resurget

When Fen and Sean walked into the side door of the house a hand gripped Fens arm and she was slammed against the wall.

"What have I told you about putting your nose where it don't belong? Huh Fenny? What's this about you snooping around the school?"

She trembled as she looked into the eyes of her older cousin Alan. Again they seemed a shade darker than their normal blue and they were dilated and glazed over.

"I don't remember you being made my guardian, I don't have to answer to you. Let go of me. How do you know anyway?"

Sean shifted nervously. "I told her you wouldn't like it Alan, but she wouldn't mind."

"Shut up, Sean." Spit hit her face as he yelled to Sean without looking away from her. "Don't question me, just mind your business or you may not make it to the end of term."

"Let go of my arm, Alan. You're hurting me."

He leaned closer and whisper cold words into her ear. "I'll do that and a lot more if you don't learn your place."

"What do you mean-"

"Ahh Fenella , Sean, you're home. Go on in and help your aunt Fen. Sean, Allan, I need you in the barn." The boys father's voice filled the room and Alan let go of Fen's arm. His face returned to a more natural expression as he cheerfully answered his dad, as if he hadn't been violently angry second before. "Later Fen."

The three men shuffled out of the room and Fen stumbled into the nearest chair. She took off her school jacket and saw the bruise forming on her arm. "Ssss. Dumb ass." A thought hit her and she reached a shaking hand into the pocket. The blue stone was still as mesmerizing as it was the first moment she saw it. And it was warm too.

Re: Malum Resurget

"Wake UP!"

There was a smack of flesh on flesh and Mike felt a stinging Slap across the face. He jerked his eyes open to see an old man in priests black and a white dog-collar standing out on his neck. "For heavens sake Michael, you have been here for an hour, how did you manage to get soulstained so quickly?"

Mike was still recovering from the Demons poison, but even as he lay on the floor he could feel it receding. Beside the Vicar lay an empty bottle, more holy water, if he could guess.

"It's a long story Father." Mike said, his voice still strained. "Help me up a and I'll tell you." He said, his hand out held.

Fenella slept better than she had since she had come to her cousins small farm. Memories of the boiler room horrors made her decide to sleep with the necklace under her pillow, the chain wound around her fist. The odd dreams and restless sleep didn't plague her at all that night.

Alan gave her odd looks at breakfast but was all nice while her aunt and uncle were present. As soon as they left she left too, though it was way too early for school. She took her time and the long way around, not want either Alan nor Sean to come up behind her.

Re: Malum Resurget

Mike sat in vestry as Vicar Dibley pored a steaming cup of tea for the both of them. The morning light streamed through the churches windows and Mike rubbed his eyes, their bloodshot whites doing nothing to add to his appearance as he accepted the mug.

"A Horror here? Saints preserve us." The priest pushed his gold rimed spectacles up his nose as he sat. "I am glad that you dealt with such a thing, I dread to think what would have happened if a student had found it first."

Mike was less convinced "It was no random occurring father. Someone had to draw the symbol, give it the power to break through so quickly, otherwise It would have sat there for weeks before being able to split the firmament."

He stood, then rubbed his temples as they thumped, a nasty residence with his heart, an after effect of the Souldstain. "I need to go back to the school. Get upstairs on the Phone and let them know whats going on, see if they have any recommendations."

He headed towards the door. "There are questions need answering."

Re: Malum Resurget

The sky was bright and white, but the wooded road was creepy. She never considered how deserted it was in her plans to evade her increasingly creepy cousins.

When she had first arrived two months ago, they were a little odd, but she thought it was just a culture difference with her being raised in the states. Now their behavior was down right disturbing.

As she walked she heard an odd growling sound. The hair stood up on Fen's neck as she began to physically feel a strange ..presence. She gripped the stone that now hung around her neck beneath her school uniform and picked up her pace.

Fen heard footsteps and looked behind her. When she did that they sounded like they came from the left. No matter where she looked she couldn't see anything nor find the source of the sound. Frighten whimpers escaped her open lips as she broke into and all out run visions of the foul monster in the school boiler room spurring her on.
