"We can't put the table here," Raa said with a frown, hands palm down on the table in question as he looked at Julian over it's long surface.
"Why not?" Julian asked a bit absently, glancing at the calm surface of the water they stood beside. Raa didn't blame him. He couldn't wait for the party to start, either, and with the pool being in doors, no one would freeze their asses off as the snow falling outside slowly accumulated into drifts. That, and Raa had finally gotten his cast off yesterday. Not that he really wanted to show his arm to anyone. Six weeks without being able to work out his right forearm created an almost mutant like difference between right and left; his left arm and upper right arm reflected the jock he was, while his right forearm looked like it should belong to a computer geek who spent hours in their mother's basement dreaming up the next virus to take over the technological world. At the moment, he hid behind the thick sleeves of his leather jacket.
"Because it doesn't go here," Raa stated.
"Go here?" Julian asked, one brow raised slightly as he adopted the same pose Raa held. "Go here? Should we put it by the potted plants in that corner? Would that help the zen-like flow, or is the table being in this spot offending your natural interior decorating tendencies? I am amazed it took you until this year to discover you're gay."
Raa's eyes narrowed, hands balling into fists against the table top. "Asshole-"
"Jock strap," Julian interrupted casually.
Raa grit his teeth. "Prick, liste-"
"Grunt swipe," Julian interrupted again.
Raa clenched his jaw so tight it gained an instant headache. Instead of opening his mouth again, he looked pointedly toward the wall, where two doors, each one marked as either the male or female restrooms attached to the pool room, were completely blocked by the long table resting up against them.
Julian followed his glance, stood silently for a moment, then nodded and picked up his side of the table. "I think we should move the table over there," he said, nodding toward an open expanse of wall in front of floor to ceiling windows.
Raa closed his eyes, took a deep breath to steady himself, and lifted his end of the table.
He kept reminding himself that Julian was his friend, that he and Marcus had agreed to come early to help set up for the party tonight because of that fact, although Raa knew he would much rather be spending time in the Graves' apartment three floors above with Marcus instead of fighting with Julian about tables and chairs blocking various entrances and exits into the pool area. The best little tiff had been when Julian had wanted to put a bank of chairs in front of the fire exit.
"So what if it blocks the fire exit?" Julian had argued, actually showing some irritation in the form of a severe frown. "If the building catches on fire, we can all just jump in the pool."
Raa had let that one slide.
